Description
Somehow the 2 shadows made me think of Groundhog Day. Anthuriums are one of the most popular tropical flowers, due to their brightly colored flower spathes, ornamental leaves, and long vase life of about six weeks. Their heart-shaped flowers and tropical personality have come to symbolize hospitality, which is a bit ironic, since all parts of the plant are poisonous. Ingestion may cause mild stomach disorders, and anthurium sap can cause skin irritation. The genus Anthurium, herbaceous epiphyte native to tropical America, includes over 800 species, found in the New World tropics from Mexico to northern Argentina and Uruguay and Hawaii. Also known as Painted Tongue, Flamingo Flower, Flamingo Lily, or Tail Flower, as translated directly from the Greek. The heart-shaped flower of Anthuriums is a spathe or a waxy, modified leaf flaring out from the base of a fleshy column or spike (spadix) where many tiny unisexual flowers grow which may be white, yellow, red, pink, orange or green. The anthurium flowers appear as a roughness on the spadix. Most common colors of anthuriums are red and shades of red.
Kingdom, Plantae; Division, Magnoliophyta; Class, Liliopsida; Order, Alismatales; Family, Araceae; Genus, Anthurium.
