Description
This purplish macro crystal cave is a closeup shot of a specimen amethyst geode on display in the home of a jeweler. Amethyst means "not drunk". Ancient Greeks thought the stone protected its owner from drunkenness, so they not only wore amethyst but made drinking vessels of it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Amethyst is a semiprecious quartz stone, the traditional birthstone for February. Amethysts are usually in primary hues from a light pinkish violet to a deep purple. Amethysts may also exhibit red and/ or blue secondary hues. The best amethyst specimens are from Siberia, Sri Lanka, Brazil and the far East.
