Description
Press your favorite and let's dance! This classic neon- accented retro entertainment center was photographed at a Florida island resort, not a roadside honkytonk!
Did you know?:
The Wurlitzer company started in Cincinnati in 1853. Founded by German immigrant (Franz) Rudolph Wurlitzer, they company initially imported instruments from Germany for resale in the United States. Wurlitzer obtained defense contracts to provide musical instruments to the U.S. military. In 1880, the company began manufacturing pianos, band organs, orchestrions, player pianos and pipe or theatre organs popular in theatres for accompaniment to silent movies. Wurlitzer began producing electric pianos, electronic organs and jukeboxes, and eventually became better known for coin operated jukeboxes and vending machines, which are still made by Wurlitzer. The jukebox operations were sold and moved to Germany in 1973. This one is in Useppa, a Florida resort island. And now, a word about jukeboxes: A jukebox began as a record player for public places and is a partially automated music-playing device, usually a coin-operated machine, that will play a patron's selection from self-contained media. "Jukebox" became a word in the United States beginning in 1940, derived from the familiar usage "juke joint", derived from the Gullah word "juke" or "joog", which meant disorderly, rowdy, or wicked.
