When his tour stayed in Budapest, The King of Pop often stayed at the Kempinski Hotel. When the singer was in town, fans would gather in the park across from the hotel, trying to catch a glimpse of the famous pop star. Upon his 2009 death fans dedicated a tree on the corner of the park to his memory. Devotees decorated the public tree, stapling pictures, flowers, letters and homemade tributes into the bark. The tree is still regularly plastered with photos and prints of the singer. Each year on Michael Jackson's birthday, Hungarian fans gather in the park in impromptu flash mobs to perform one of the celebrity's dances.
