Artist's Description
We are all presents here, living the gift of life,
destined to struggle, sure to become the past.
Past is behind but could be up the last stairway
we ascend to re-encounter old loves and dreams.

This old stairway represents the mystery of what is above and beyond. It is located in Balboa Park and is about 100 years old. Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre cultural park in San Diego, California, United States.
Named for the Spanish maritime explorer Vasco de Balboa, the park hosted the 1916 PanamaCalifornia Exposition and 1935 California Pacific International Exposition; both left architectural landmarks in Spanish Colonial Revival, Mission Revival, Pueblo Revival and Arts and Crafts architectural styles.
The park and its historic Exposition buildings were declared a National Historic Landmark and National Historic Landmark District in 1977, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
