Description
Throw away the key! This photo-op of cadenas de l'amour exists no more! This bridge over the Seine River in Paris was covered with love locks; they have all been taken away now and the metal mesh replaced with plexiglass, because the metal was too heavy for the bridges.
A love lock or love padlock (Cadenas de amor ,cadenas de l'amour ) is a padlock which sweethearts lock to a bridge, fence, gate, or public fixture to symbolize their love.Typically the couple's names or initials are inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love. Recently love locks have proliferated at an increasing number of locations worldwide. They are often treated by municipal authorities as litter or vandalism, as their removal is costly.
The history of love padlocks dates back at least 100 years to a melancholy Serbian tale of World War I, with an attribution for the bridge Most Ljubavi (lit. the Bridge of Love) in spa town of Vrnjaka Banja.
Tell your spouse or lover Je t'aime in French and I love you in English or your own language of love! How about a romantic pillow, tote or card for your sweetheart?

Nice to have a pic of this before the locks are removed because of the weight. All the best! (L)

Wow - I can imagine how heavy these locks made the bridge, that is a shame. What an awesome capture Barbie! Incredible description, thank you. This is definitely a piece to treasure. Great work on capturing the Seine River and the Eiffel Tower off in the distance. I love your touch in adding the text in French "I love you." L/Fave/Tweeted.
