Description
We were invited to dine with a gracious retired couple from New York, who put a single flower in a glass flower at each place setting. She called them hibiscus holders. Hibiscus won't last long, even in water. I hope I didn't admire them overly much; I got them for Christmas! (Optimizing the hibiscus petals tinted the clear glass blue.)
Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. Its several hundred species flourish worldwide in their native warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions. Prized for showy flowers, they are also known as rose mallow. This blossom has a backdrop of a southern California sunset. Tea from hibiscus flowers is enjoyed around the world and is served both hot and cold. The beverage is known as bissap in West Africa, flor de Jamaica or just Jamaica in Mexico, agua de Jamaica, roselle, sorrel, gongura, etc.
