Description
One of the seven natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls, also called Mosi-oa-Tunya meaning "smoke that thunders", is a waterfall in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is considered the world's largest waterfall based on width and height; One mile wide and 354 feet wide. Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to vew Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855 from what is now known as Livingstone Island, one of two land masses in the middle of the river, immediately upstream from the falls on the Zambian side. The mist from Victoria Falls rises constantly, making rainbows a common occurrence. The rainbow is known as Iris in southern Africa. Iris, to the ancient Greeks, personified the rainbow, was a messenger of the gods, and was one of the goddesses of the sea and the sky.

Outstanding photo. I remember walking over the bridge that connected (then) Rhodesia and Zambia. As I got to about the middle of it - a Zambian soldier rushed towards me with his gun pointing at me, gesturing to me to get back. For some reason I did ! :-)
Barbie Corbett-Newmin replied:
That brings back memories of walking down a path and variously finding elephants, a friendly security man, and a poor person in need of shoes. All the same path! I guess your bridge was not an official border crossing!? Thanks for your comments and compliments.

Well do I remember Victoria Falls. I think I went on my knees and cried. I used a plastic bag, and got wonderful shots of the same. It was an Olympus OM1. I poured water out the back. I set it in the hot sun, where it dried out and worked fine.
Barbie Corbett-Newmin replied:
Yes, there were so many places that got you a good drenching! Thank goodness our cameras survived!
