Two Macaws, an avian portrait.
These two macaws are owned by an eccentric old California man wandering the beach. The only way I could return them to the wild was by painting them in a natural setting.
Macaws are long-tailed, colorful New World parrots. Of the many different Psittacidae or true parrots genera, six are macaws: Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. Macaws are native to Central America (especially Mexico), South America, and formerly the Caribbean. Most species prefer forests, especially rainforests, but others prefer woodland or savannah-like habitats. Large beaks, long tails, and relatively bare, light-coloured, medial (facial patch) areas distinguish macaws. A macaw's facial feather pattern is as unique as a fingerprint.
I had this work in an art show and had just finished faithfully reproducing the birds' coloration from a photo when a lady came along and asked me if I had it in yellow!! People!
