Aaah, the famous and beautiful terra cotta horses. Over 100 million people have visited this UNESCO protected human masterpiece. In Terra Cotta Horses Square Negative I added some color and uniqueness to the familiar subject, presenting the photo with the verdigris tones seen on the ancient bronze sculptures. Backgrounder: Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first and most famous Emperor of China, gained the throne at 13. The display at Xi'an, the "Eastern Peace", is an underground military museum of one of the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. The Terracotta Army is the buried army replica of Emperor Qin Shihuang, guarding the tomb of the Emperor in his after life and accompanying him in his immortality. Representing the Qin Dynasty (211-206 BC) military power, thousands of life-size figures are arrayed in a battle formation at Qinling Bingmayong in Yanzhai County, Lintong District, just east of Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum, Xi'an.
