Description
Dr. Seuss was the pen name of Theodor Seuss Geisel, an American writer and illustrator well known as the author of popular children's books. He was
born March 2, 1904, in Springfield, MA and died September 24, 1991, in La Jolla, CA. Dr. Seuss's legacy lives on in his books. Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on this day.
This image is part of a first day cover plate block of stamps from La Jolla, honoring him. It is signed by the art director for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 15 years, Carl T. Herrman, who designed more than 50 stamps and guided more than 250 stamp projects.
