Description
This bird looks happy to have found lodging for a single traveler! This waterproof waterfowl was spotted on this post or piling off Charlotte Harbor while kayaking. Pelecanidae are birds with a long beak with a down-curved hook at the end of the upper mandible, and a huge gular or throat pouch attached to the lower. The pouch is used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped up contents before swallowing. Pelicans are an ancient avian species; they have been around for about 30 million years since the Early Oligocene era.

Delightful critter! Love the blank expression, but obviously he is studying something....just trying to look like a statue! Love it! FLPG

Barbie: When we first viewed this "Post Pelican" image we, like so many others we see, thought this was not a real bird. Amazing to see it is. Well done. Great feather details. Great colors !! BRAVO !! "L/F" with pleasure. Bill & Deb Hayes

A good photographer evokes a response for their image from the viewer. Your image is humorous and after doing a double take ( I thought the pelican was carved out of the post) I realized the pelican was real. This made it even funnier to me. Thank you Barbie, you made me laugh on a day that I woke up with a terrible sinus headache.

Hope you feel better! SO glad I could make you laugh. I really appreciate that nice feedback!!!

Spencer, I also got a chuckle from your "Pelican on a stick" comment in the 200 Club discussion thread!
