Description
This bunny rabbit was bravely guarding a nest of babies in the pansy patch. I approached and spotted them but when I returned with a camera, the babies had quickly been concealed. This was probably right by the entrance to their den, warren or burrow.
Rabbits are widespread small mammals in the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha -- cute, but not necessarily a gardeners friend. The hare was a popular motif in medieval church art in ancient times and still commonly represents Easter. They are sometimes used as food; many of us prefer chocolate bunnies!
