Description
Goats! All their yelling and fainting! Whassup with that? Why do people suddenly like goat yoga?? And how did goats get those creepy horizontal slits in their pupils? In a study published August 2015 in Science Advances, researchers from UC Berkeley and Durham University examined the pupil shapes of goats and of 213 other land species for patterns. The ecological niche as either hunter or the hunted is a key predictor of how eyes will be shaped. Lead author Martin Banks of UC said grazing animals rotate their eyes when they bow their heads to graze, thus always keeping their eye slits nearly parallel to the ground no matter the position of their heads. They can rotate more than 50 degrees per eye, the researchers say, which is 10 times that of the human eye, so that grazers can maintain a preys'-eye-view of the world even while eating. So heres looking out for predators, kid! Of course you knew that a baby Capra aegagrus hircus is called a kid! This old goat lives next to a marine salvage yard in Florida. Artiodactyls, even-toed (cloven-hooved) ungulates, include antelopes, camels, cows, deer, goats, pigs, and sheep. These animals walk on two enlarged toes. What an animal! Share this with a kid!
