Description
This set of silhouettes features a gnarled wind-blown pine. This sturdy survivor seems to be a natural bonsai silhouetted against a clear, hot, blue summer sky. It is accented by fairy chimneys or hoodoos on a slope by the Navajo Loop Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, one of the country's best hiking trails for all ages. Hoodoos are of Claron Limestone from the Paleocene or Eocene age and are abundant in the northern section of Bryce Canyon National Park. Hoodoos are irregular pillars of rock that protrude from the bottom of arid basins and "broken" lands, still standing tall after years of erosion have erased the ground around them.
