Description
Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. Events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970. Now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network it is observed in over 190 countries. In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth peace, to first be celebrated on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. Subsequently a separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. Nelson was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in recognition of his work and Earth Day remains on April 22nd. I created this to commemorate these good intentions and hope this reminder can be used as cards, posters, classroom teaching aids, etc.
