Attention cat lovers and Leonardo lovers: It is not every day you see Leonardo da Vinci's bed, and of course, it is rarely occupied any more. Now your cat will want to shed on red velvety fabric, too! This bedchamber is in The Château du Clos Lucé, a small French Renaissance château in Amboise, France, the official residence of Leonardo da Vinci between 1516 and 1519. This bedroom in which Leonardo died on May 2, 1519 is on the first floor of Château du Clos Lucé. According to tradition King Francois I was at his side when Leonardo died. When we visited, a cat had taken his place. He would not have minded. Artist, architect, scientist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci loved animals, and his journals illustrate this. He was a vegetarian later in life. He wrote, "The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men." He also remarked, "The smallest feline is a masterpiece."
